How Two-Factor Authentication Protects Your Accounts

The two factors

Where OTP fits

The one-time password is the 'something you have' factor in action. Whether it arrives by SMS or is generated in an authenticator app, it proves you physically control the device or number tied to the account. Receiving the SMS version on a virtual number keeps your personal line private while still securing the account.

Enable 2FA on email first — because your email can reset every other account — then on banking, social, and any service that supports it. It takes a few minutes per account and is the single highest-impact security step most people can take. Keep your recovery codes somewhere safe and offline so you are never locked out.
